A SMALL COMMUNE. A STRONG FOUNDATION.
Sharing should feel second nature.
Build trust with clear expectations, shared responsibility, and practical safeguards. Bring your people together with confidence.
Vouching for new members
Existing members can vouch for people they know, helping a Commune grow through trusted relationships rather than anonymous profiles.
Asset inspections
Document an asset’s condition and readiness before sharing, giving members a clearer picture of what to expect.
Clear usage agreements
Agree on access, care, costs, and responsibilities up front. Shared expectations mean fewer surprises along the way.
Reciprocal accountability
Everyone contributes to looking after shared assets. Documented handovers and agreed responsibilities help keep care a two-way commitment.
Optional damage protection
Optional damage protection may be available at booking for select assets. Eligibility, pricing, exclusions, and provider terms define what’s included.
Third-party dispute mitigation
Commune offers optional third-party dispute mitigation to help members work through disagreements. An impartial third party uses shared records and a fair process to give everyone a voice and work toward an equitable outcome.
GLAD YOU ASKED
A few things you might be wondering.
A different way of doing things comes with a few good questions.
What can I manage with Commune?
Keep your shared calendar, expenses, reimbursements, dues, payments, voting, discussions, and tasks in one place. Give each task an owner, track what needs doing, and keep receipts and approvals ready for accounting. Your document vault holds manuals, agreements, amendments, and contracts, with an audit log so you can follow changes. Choose who can see and manage things with host, contributor, and member roles.
Is this a rental marketplace?
No. Rental marketplaces focus on one booking at a time, often leaving the host to handle questions, guest screening, handoffs, cleaning, maintenance, and calendar conflicts. Earnings can rise and fall with demand and the season. Commune is about sharing with an ongoing group of friends, family, or neighbors. You agree together on contributions, booking rules, and who does what, rather than starting over with every guest.
How does a Commune coordinate shared access and responsibilities?
Use a shared calendar to see who's booked in, and agree how each member's contributions translate into access. Keep expenses, reimbursements, and decisions together so everyone can follow along. Decide who handles care, how costs are shared, and what happens when someone leaves. You can also rent surplus time for cash if the group agrees on the fees and rules. Before sharing, check with your insurer that your cover fits the way you'll use the asset; personal or rental-marketplace cover may not apply.
How do exchange credits work?
Share availability on an under-used asset, earn credits, and use them to book time with other members' assets on the shared calendar. Your Commune can set credit values based on availability, demand, asset quality, and season, so everyone knows the cost before booking. Credits aren't cash and don't cover running costs like fuel, cleaning, insurance, or repairs. Agree together on those costs and any payment for the host's time.
Can I earn money from an asset I share?
Yes—you can rent out spare availability for cash if your Commune agrees. Decide on pricing, fees, running costs, and who handles each booking, and check that rentals are allowed and covered by insurance. What you earn will depend on demand and the time you make available.
Do I need to bring an asset?
No. Sharing can mean responsibilities and commitments, not just physical assets. Use Commune for co-parenting duties, household schedules, shared expenses, or multi-member LLC commitments like contributions and member responsibilities. You can also contribute time or money rather than an asset, if the group agrees. Your Commune decides what works for everyone, alongside any agreements you already have.
What makes a Commune feel safe?
Trust starts with your people. Existing members can vouch for newcomers, and shared records help everyone know what to expect. Each Commune member agrees on access and responsibilities, including care, costs, and what happens if plans change. Sharing still involves risk, so check the asset's condition and any licenses or safety rules before use. Ask your insurer whether your cover includes shared use. Our insurance partners offer special discounts on liability insurance; available options depend on your location and what you share. The insurer provides the cover, not Commune. Optional damage protection may also be available for select bookings—check what's covered, what's excluded, and the price before choosing it.
Is a Commune a forever commitment?
No. Decide together how long you want to share and how someone can leave. Put the basics in writing early: notice periods, outstanding costs, future bookings, and what happens to any ownership share. Clear exit plans make joining feel easier, too.
How do I start a Commune?
Start with friends, family, or neighbors you'd be comfortable sharing with. Choose what you want to share—an asset, a project, or everyday responsibilities—then invite everyone to agree on contributions, schedules, and costs. If the host will be paid for their time, agree on that too. Keep your agreement in Commune. For shared assets, record their condition and check insurance before the first booking.
Is Commune different from a traditional timeshare?
Yes. A traditional timeshare usually means buying vacation time at a property, with fees and rules set by an operator. Commune doesn't sell property ownership or timeshare interests. It's software for your group to share what members bring, with your own booking rules, contributions, and exit plans. Credits can help you access other members' assets without buying each one up front. You still share the running costs and care, but you decide together how.
Can we use Commune for an LLC, SPV, or private club?
Yes. Keep member contributions, expenses, bookings, documents, tasks, and decisions together for a multi-member LLC, special-purpose vehicle (SPV), or private club. Commune handles the organizing; your group and its advisers handle the legal setup, taxes, and any rules that apply. Commune does not form an entity or hold pooled purchase funds.
